Found in Ghana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Burundi, Cameroon, Rwanda, Zaire, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Angola, Malami, Mozambique, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Swaziland, and Natal and Transvaal States of South Africa in grassland, both in drier parts of bog and on shallow gravely soil at elevations of 1000 to 2300 meters as a small to large sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with nearly erect to recurved, lanceolate to elliptical-lanceolate, acute leaves scattered along the slender, erect stem and blooms in the late spring and summer on a terminal erect, up to 8" [20 cm] long, laxly few to many [12 to 25] flowered inflorescence
