Found in Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Ghana, Togo, Nigeria, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Zaire, Rwanda, Burundi, Uganda, Sudan, Angola and Zimbabwe in grasslands at elevations of 1200 to 2700 meters as a large sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with an ellipsoid to ovoid tuber giving rise to an erect, leafy stem carrying 4 to 16, lowermost 1 to 3, white with green venation, sheathing, middle ones, erect, linear, grading into bracts above, adpressed leaves that blooms in the later spring and summer on a terminal, erect, 2.4" to 10.8" [6 to 27 cm] long, 6 to many flowered inflorescence with thin, lower ones longer than the ovary floral bracts.
