Found in Bahia, Espirito Santo, Rio de Janiero, Goias, DF, Matto Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Sao Paulo, Parana, Rio do Sul, Santa Catarina states of Brazil, Paraguay and Bolivia in wet grasslands and swamps at elevations of 1150 to 1800 meters as a small to giant sized, cool growing terrestrial with robust, leafy stem carrying erect-patent, 5 to 7 nerved, elongate lanceolate-linear, acuminate, decreasing in size above, basally clasping leaves that blooms in the late spring and summer on a terminal, erect, 6 to 10" [15 to 25 cm] long, many flowered inflorescence with grande, more or less imbricate, decreasing in size above floral bracts and carrying one of the largest flowers of the genus that is whitish green.
