Found in eastern Russia, Japan, Korea and Anhui, north Fujian, Hebei, Heilongjiang, Henan, Hunan, Jiangsu, Jiangxi, Jilin, Liaoning, Nei Mongol, Shangdong and Zhejiang provinces of China in forests and grasslands along valleys at elevations of 200 to 1500 meters as a cold growing terrestrial with ovoid to globose, fleshy tubers giving rise to an erect, terete stem with 4 to 7, below the middle, linear, amplexicaul sheathing, acuminate apically leaves that blooms in the summer and early fall on an erect, glabrous, 2 to 6.4" [5 to 16 cm] long, 8 to 20 flowered inflorescence with lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, shorter than the ovary, long acuminate apically floral bracts
