Found in the Chinese Himalayas, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Vietnam in deciduous and bamboo forests at elevations around 50 to 1300 meters as a medium to large sized, hot to cool growing terrestrial with an erect stem carrying a whorl of 2 to 6, cauline, elliptic, acute, green above, lighter green spattered with purple below leaves grading above into 5 to 10, erect to suberect, lanceolate, acuminate, margins minutely denticulate to shortly hairy sterile bracts that blooms in the later summer and early fall on an erect, terminal, 6 to 9.2" [28 to 75 cm] long, several to many flowered inflorescence with a 4.4 to 14.8" [11 to 37 cm] long rachis carrying lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, shorter than the ovary, acuminate floral bracts
