Found in Yemen, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Somalia, Kenya and Uganda in upland grasslands and moors at elevations of 1650 to 3200 meters as a small to medium sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with an erect leafy stem carrying 5 to 7, lanceolate, ovate-lanceolate to elliptic-lanceolate, grading smaller above leaves that blooms in the summer on a terminal, erect, to 4.8" [12 cm] long, rather loosely 2 to 9 flowered inflorescence with leaf-like, lower ones equal to longer than the flowers, lanceolate floral bracts.
