Found in the Chinese Himalayas, Assam, eastern Himalayas, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, Lesser Sunda Islands and the Philippines in deciduous, seasonal evergreen and pine forests and grasslands at elevations of 300 to 1300 meters as a medium sized, hot to cool growing terrestrial with fleshy, ellipsoid tubers giving rise to an erect, terete, stout stem carrying 3 to 4, oblong to oblong-lanceolate, acute to acuminate apically, amplexicaul below into the base leaves grading above into 5 to 11, erect, lanceolate, acuminate, bract-like leaflets that blooms in the summer and fall on an erect, 18" to 30.8" [45 to 77 cm] long, densely to more than 10 flowered inflorescence with a 1.6 to 3.2" [4 to 8 cm] long, rachis carrying narrowly lanceolate, ciliate floral bracts.

Flora Of Thailand Orchidaceae Vol 12 Part 1 Pedersen, Kurzweil, Suddee & Cribb 2011 cites H pelorioides as a synonym, I have left them separate for now.
