LATE
Common Name The Nabuco Habenaria [A town in Pernambuco Brazil]
Flower Size 1.6" [4 cm]
Found in Venezuela and northern, central and eastern Brazil in standing water along streams, rills and rivers as a medium sized, cool growing terrestrialwith an erect stem carrying 8 to 12, linear, grading to bracts both above and below, baslly clasping leaves that blooms in the late summer and fall on a terminal, erect, [9 to 19 cm] long, few flowered inflorescence with shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying whitish flowers
+"Habenaria nabucoi is similar and closely related to H. longicauda, but in H. nabucoi the flowers are usually larger and predominantly pure white (vs. light green in H. longicauda), the lateral sepals are not reflexed (vs. reflexed), the spur is thickened and rounded at the apex (vs. acuminate and acute) and the rostellum midlobe is taller and partially projected beyond the anthers (vs. smaller and enclosed between the anthers) (Batista et al. 2006). The species is typically aquatic and grows in water at the margins of lakes and streams.
CAUTION This group, H fastor, H nabucoi, H gourlieana and H macronectar are all fairly similar. I hope I have them separate in a correct fashion. H nabucoi is considered by Kew to be synomonous with H melvillei but I have left them separate for now. H fastor is also considered by Kew to be synomonous with H melvillei and so the photo for H melvillei is what was considered to be H fastor. I have to date not seen a plant labeled H melvillei so please use all of these species with caution!
Synonyms Habenaria gourlieana f. magna Hoehne 1919
