Common Name The Njamnja Habenaria

Flower Size

Found in the Central African Republic, Zaire, Sudan, Kenya, Tanzania, Malawi and Zambia in open woodlands and seasonally wet montane grasslands at elevations of 1180 to 2250 meters as a medium sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with an erect, slender stem carrying 11 to 17, erect, lanceoalte, acute, grading to bracts above leaves that blooms in the summer on an erect, 3.2" to 6.8" [8 to 17 cm] long, 8 to 20 flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, acute, longer than the ovary floral bract and carrying erect, green to pale green flowers.

"This species is characterised by the slender growth and shortly stalked auricles (staminodes) which are about equal to the anther in height. The petal and labellum segments are much shorter than those in H. tetraceras . The leaves are however, more or less adpressed to the stem as in the latter species and consequently the inflorescence is clearly distinguished from the rest of the stem." Summerhayes 1962
