Common Name The Petal-Like Habenaria
Flower Size .4" [1 cm]
Found in Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina at elevations of sealevel to 1100 meters as a large to giant sized, hot to warm growing terrestrial with an erect stem carrying lanceolate, acute, basally clasping leaves that blooms in the later summer and earlier fall on a terminal erect, 6 to 12" [15 to 30 cm] long, many flowered inflorescence with lanceolate, acuminate, 3 nerved, somewhat longer than the ovary floral bracts.
Separated by the simple, oblong-rectangular-spathulate or even subflabellate petals widest at the apex. The only other species in the section Seticauda with somewhat similar petals is H unellezii but it has ligulate to oblong-ligulate lip with obscure basal teeth on each side, prominently dilated apically. The apical portion is elliptic, rhombic to 3 lobulate, in H petalodes the lobules are uneaqual and acute." Szlachetko & Kolanowska 2017
