Found in Colima, Guerrero, Jalisco y Morelia. states of Mexico in deciduous tropical forests and thorny bush at elevations of 870 to 1500 meters as a medium sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial with ovoid to globose tubers giving rise to an erect, leafy stem carrying 9 to 11, elliptic to narrowly elliptic, ascending to extending leaves that blooms in the summer through fall on an erect, racemose, 4.8 to 6" [12 to 15 cm] long, 9 to 11 flowered inflorescence with conduplicate, erect, concave, cuneate, lanceoalte, lowermost exceed the flowers in length, as long as the ovary above floral bracts and carrying soapy scented flowers.

" Habenaria oreophila is related to H. santanae R.
