Found in Belize, Costa Rica, Fr Guiana, Guyana, Bahia, Espirito Santo, Goias, DF, Minas Gerias, Rio de Janiero, Matto Grosso, Sao Paulo, Parana and Santa Catarina states of Brazil, Peru and Paraguay in dry savanna and oak woods at elevations of 1200 to 1900 meters as a medium sized, cool growing terrestrial with an erect stem enveloped by grading larger above, imbricating, obtuse becoming acuminate above leaves that blooms in the summer and fall on an erect, terminal, 1.6 to 2.8" [4 to 7 cm] long, laxly several flowered inflorescence with imbricating, acuminate, inflated, triangular bracts that are half as long to as long as the ovary.
