Found in western southern Xizang, Sichuan and northwestern Yunnan provinces of China in alpine grasslands at elevations of 2500 to 4100 meters as a miniature sized, cold growing terrestrial with ellipsoid to subglobose tubers giving rise to an erect stem with 2 to 3, basal, tubular sheaths and carrying 1 to 3, usually 2, basal, subopposite, oblong, elliptic to spathulate, obtuse to acute apically leaves that blooms in the summer on an erect, 1.8 to 7.6" [4.5 to 19 cm] long, cylindric, ebracteate, laxly few to subdensely many flowered inflorescence with ovate, shorter than the ovary, obtuse floral bracts and carrying nodding flowers
