Found in western Sichuan and northwestern Yunnan provinces of China in alpine grasslands at elevations of 2500 to 3200 meters as a miniature to small sized, cold growing terrestrial with oblong-ovoid tubers giving rise to an erect stem provided with 2 basal tubular sheaths and carrying 2, cauline, widely spaced, alternate, oblong, obtuse leaves that blooms in the late summer and early fall on an erect, 2.8 to 5.6" [7 to 14 cm] long, peduncle cylindric, provided with 1 to 4, ovate-lanceolate, sterile bracts, rachis 1.2 to 3.2" [3 to 8 cm] long, densely many flowered inflorescence with ovate-lanceola to lanceolate, shorter than the ovary floral bracts.
