Found in western and central Yunnan province of China in forests and grassy slopes at elevations of 1600 to 2800 meters as a small sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with ovoid to ovoid-oblong tubers giving rise to a stem with 2, basal, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, basal, linear to linear-oblong, acute leaf that blooms in the later summer and early fall on an erect, cylindric, 4.8 to 8.8" [12 to 22 cm] long, densely many flowered inflorescence with a few ovate-lanceolate bracts and ovate, shorter than the ovary, acuminate floral bracts
