Found in Mexico in pine/oak forests at elevations around 1750 meters as a small sized, cool growing mycoheterotrophic terrestrial with coral white rhizomes giving rise to an erect, dark purple to dark red, succulent, enveloped below by tubular, obtuse, inflated bracts, to 12” [30 cm] long overall, blooming in the later summer, rachis 4” [10 cm] long, laxly, 3 to 5 flowered inflorescence carrying campanulate, dark purple flowers
