Found in Jalisco state of Mexico in holm oak forests among leaf litter and lesser so in oak/pine forests at elevations of 1700 to 1790 meters as a small sized, cool growing mycoheterotrophic terrestrial with a creeping to ascending, white rhiziome giving rise in the earlier spring to an erect, leafless, purple, cucullate sheathed, 8 to 14" [20 to 35 cm] long overall, rachis 2 to 5.2" [5 to 13 cm] long, filiform, secund to semicylinric, simultaneously 5 to 14 flowered inflorescence with ovate-triangular, acute, shorter than the ovary floral bracts and carrying long-lasting flowers.
