Ida lionetii Cogn & Goosens ex Oakley 2003 SECTION Cinnabarinae Photo by © Jay Pfahl

Common Name Lionet's Ida [French Orchid Collector [1800 to early 1900's]

Flower Size 4" [10 cm]

Known only by the flower without locality. I use the photo above because Oakley states, Unique among Ida in that the entire margin of the midlobe of the lip is undulate with long, dense fimbriations, the lip is red-orange centrally and with a white margin tinged with yellow. This flower has most of those characteristics and so I have added it as this species. Anyone begs to differ please write me at jfal@sprynet.com and we will discuss other possible ID's. The plant is definitely from upland Colombia as I have seen it in many private gardens all over Colombia at elevations above 2500 meters.

Synonyms *Lycaste gigantea var lionetii Cogn & Goos. 1899
