Found in central to southern Madagascar in damp forests at elevations around 1500 to 2400 meters as a medium to large sized, cool to cold growing lithophyte and occasional epiphyte with a robust, erect stem carrying 8 to 10, ligulate, unequally bilobed apically, conduplicate towards the base leaves that blooms in the late spring and summer on an axillary or through old leaf sheaths, 1.2 to 3.2" [3 to 8 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence with a few basal sheaths and a thin, tubular, shorter than the ovary floral bract.
