Common Name The Violet Colored Wings [refers to the wings of the lip]

Found in Ecuador and Peru at elevations of 900 to 2000 meters as a small sized, warm to cool growing terrestrial with a short leafy stem thickened into a narrowly ovoid, prolonged into a slender, cauliform neck and carrying a single, apical, erect, lanceolate-elliptic, acute to acuminate, narrowing below leaf with 3 nerves beneath and blooms in the fall on a basal, lateral, erect, somewhat stout, 18" [45 cm] long, 9 to 15 flowered, racemose inflorescence with a few remote small, tubular sheaths and small, inconspicuous floral bracts.
