Found in Pastaza province of Ecuador in primary forests at elevations around 330 to 350 meters as a small sized, hot growing epiphtye with a short rhizome giving rise to ensiform, heteroblastic pseudobulbs enveloped by to 3, foliaceous linear, papyraceous, multi-veined, apex slightly acuminate and truncate base sheaths and carrying 2, linear, green, smooth, semi-leathery, with parallel venation and a prominent central vein, entire margin, slightly arching, subcartilaginous, plicate, conduplicate with veins channeled abaxially, with an acute-apiculate apex, basally attenuate into a petiolate base leaf that blooms in the winter and spring on a single, erect, lateral, semi erect, peduncle 1.2 to 2" [3 to 5 cm] long, brown, becoming lighter towards the apex, cylindrical, enveoped by amplexicaul, broadly triangular, acuminate sheathing bracts, rachis light brown, 1.6 to 2.4" [4 to 6 cm] long, simultaneously approximately 4 flowered inflorescence with green, lanceolate, acute apex with a truncate base carrying odorless, resupinate, pedicellate, yellowish to creamy with purple striped flowers
" The new species resembles Koellensteinia graminea but differs mainly in plant size 12" (30 cm long) and flower coloration (creamy white with thick purple transverse lines) vs. short plant 6 to 9.2" (15–23 cm), yellowish flowers with much more pronounced purple lines. Sepals and petals elliptical, apex obtuse, slightly acute with marked linear spots, slightly arched toward the column, vs. sepals and petals elliptical, apex acuminate with thick linear spots tinged with purple, arched toward the column. Trilobed lip, apical part almost equal to lateral lobes, with more pronounced purple transverse lines on wings, with prominent, thin, semi-open basal callus in a 45° V-shape. Vs. Trilobed lip apically much shorter than the lateral lobes, with broad purple transverse lines, with an open, deep basal callus forming two open wings at 90°, in the middle part short column with prominent wings, Vs thin column. in Koellensteinia graminea."
