Found in Espirito Santo state of Brazil as a small sized, warm to cool growing rupicolus orchid with huge, peculiar, tapering truncated pseudobulbs carrying erect leaves that blooms in the late fall on an inflorescence equal to the length of the leaves which is a diagnostic trait.
Sometimes cited as a synonym of Laelia gloedeniana but that species has a deep red colored venation of the labellum and an inflorescence that is much longer than the leaves.
