Found in Taiwan, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Java, New Guinea and the Philippines in dark humid forests at elevations of 300 to 1600 meters as a small to medium sized, hot to cool growing mycoheterotrophic terrestrial with an above the ground, vertical and branched rhizome giving rise in the spring to a thin, brittle, light to dark brown, to 20" [40 cm] long stem with ovate-lanceolate, glabrous, smooth to minutely muricate bracts and carrying 3 to 7, widely spaced flowers
