Common Name The Floral Comb Inflorescence Lepanthopsis

Flower Size .16" to .24" [4 to 6 mm]

Found from Mexico, El Salvador, Honduras and Nicaragua Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Venezuela, Fr Guiana, Guyana and Brazil in moist premontane forests, montane forests and elfin forests as a miniature sized, warm to cold growing epiphyte on moss covered branches at elevations of 300 to 2400 meters with erect, terete stems covered by inflated, ciliate sheaths and has a single, elliptic-lanceolate, subcoriaceous, retuse, apiculate, gradually narrows below into the base leaf and blooms in the spring, summer and fall on a 1.72" to 2.8" [4.8 to 7 cm] long, terminal [from the leaf base], several flowered, racemose inflorescence that arises in the winter and spring with simultaneously opening flowers.

"Vegetatively similar to others in the genus, but separated by the double ranked inflorescence of congested, transverse flowers with the peduncle more or less twice the length of the leaf, the sepals are narrow, the laterals deeply connate to near the obtuse apices, the petals are broadly elliptical and the slightly concave, suborbicular lip has short basal lobes that do not surround the column."
