Common Name or Meaning The Yellow Flame Pleurothallis

Found in Tzachilas province of Ecuador on thin branches in primary forest at elevations around 2000 meters as a miniature to small sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with a terete, erect, stem enveloped bhy 10 to 12 papery, tubular lepanthiform sheaths carrying a single, coriaceous, erect to horizontal, orbicular, petiolate base leaf that blooms on an erect, racemose, peduncle terete, .65 to .8" [1.64 to 2 cm] long, rachis short, slowly successively single, sewvdral flowered inflorescence enveloped by papery, tubular bracts

" The new species is similar to Lepanthes ctenophora, but distinguished by the orbicular leaves (vs. elliptical), shorter stems (14.2 to 15.8 cm long vs. 30 to 90 cm long), orange-brown sepals (vs. light yellow), the apices of the lateral sepals diverging >100° (vs. ca. 50°), and the lower portion of the lip blade’s lobes rounded, not extending past the anther cap (vs. extended into subfalcate extensions extending to the tip of the column)."
