Common Name or Meaning Guachisaca's Lepanthes [Ecuadorian Angel Guaschisaca Orchid Enthusiast and participated in the expedition resulting in the discovery of the new species]

Found in Imbabura province of Ecuador in primary cloud forests at elevations around 800 meters as a miniature sized, warm growing epiphyte with an erect, terete stem enveloped by 17, papery, microscopically scabrous, trumpet-shaped sheaths with an ovate, acute to acuminate, dilated ostia and carrying a single, spreading, thinly coriaceous, ovate, acute to acuminate, emarginate, apiculate, obtuse and abruptly contracted below into a shortly petiolate base leaf that blooms at most any time of the year on an 1 to 2, held on the underside of the leaf, peduncle terete .56 to .8" [1.3 to 2 cm] long, enveloped by membraneous, ovate, acute, truncate bracts, rachis terete .032 to .128" [.8 to 3.1 mm] long, congested, successively 1 to few, to 30 flowered inflorescence carrying resupinate flowers.
"Similar to Lepanthes eriocampa but can be distinguished vegetatively by bearing more sheaths per stem [up to 17 versus 3 to 10], leaves that are green beneath versus reticulated purple, and narrower [ovate versus broadly ovate], petals lacking a deflexed marginal lobe versus present and the oblong appendix versus worm-like, deflexed and bisegmented."
