Found in Azuay province of Ecuador at elevations around 1900 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool growing epiphyte with erect, 4" [10 cm] tall, enveloped by 8, papery, microscopically scabrous, trumpet-shaped lepanthiform sheaths with ovate, acute to acuminate, dilated, spiculate ostium, terete stems bearing a single, erect, purple beneath, apical, coriaceous, ovate, acuminate, emarginate, apiculate, abruptly contracted into the obtuse, shortly petiolate base leaf that blooms at any time of the year on an erect, peduncle terete, .192 to .366" [4.8 to 7.4 mm] long, rachis terete, .012 to .06" [.3 to 1.5 mm] long, tightly congested, successively several flowered inflorescence arising from the underside of the leaf.

"Most similar to Lepanthes intricata but the new species differs in the petals with a subquadrate upper lobe [vs oblong, obtuse], a lower lobe that is oblong [vs triangular] and subequal in length to the upper lobe [vs half as large], the lip with an appendix with a single, nodular, pubescent apical gland [vs biglandular to 4 lobed apical gland]."
