Common Name or Meaning The Small Creature Lepanthes

Found in Imbabura province of Ecuador at elevations around 1400 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool growing epiphyte with a terete, erect stem enveloped by 7 or so, papery, tubular, lepanthiform sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, dark green and lighter green reticulate, orbicular, petiolate base leaf that blooms on an erect, peduncle terete, 5.2–5.5 mm long, rachis short, racemose, slowly successively single, few flowered inflorescence with papery, tubular floral bracts bracts.
"The new species is similar to Lepanthes pelorostele , but distinguished by the reticulate leaf blades (vs. uniformly colored), minutely denticulate sepal margins (vs. entire), yellow sepals suffused with purple along the midveins (vs. white, unpatterned), orange petals (vs. purple), and the central petal lobe being the shortest (vs. the upper lobe).." Lepanthes microzoa resembles the the Ecuadorian species Lepanthes pelorostele . Lepanthes scrotifera and L rigidigitata, the Colombian species L abortiva, L vargasii, L eros, L isoceles, L micellilabia and L niphas and the Costa Rican Lepanthes equus-frisiae, L posthon, L spadariae and L vestgialis.
