Common Name The Planada Lepanthes [The La Planada Science Center , Ricaurte Colombia where this species is in cultivation]
Flower Size .12" [3 mm]
Found in Narino department of Colombia at elevations around 1800 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool growing epiphyte with slender, erect, ramicauls enveloped by 10 to 15, glabrous lepanthiform sheaths with microscopically ciliate, dilated ostia and carrying a single, apical, spreading, coricaceous, narrowly ovate, acute, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the winter and summer on a filiform, congested, secund, 1 to 1.6" [2.5 to 4 cm] long including the .2 to .8" [5 to 20 mm] long peduncle, successively several flowered inflorescence arising on the top of the leaf with smooth floral bracts.
"This species seems to have affinities to several vaguely defined groups. It is recognized by the narrowly ovate, spreading leaves with a short secund raceme of successive, purple flowers lying on top. The sepals are obtuse with shortly acuminate apices; the petals are large with more or less equal, triangular lobes; the blades of the lip are broadly elliptical; and the appendix is small and long-pubescent.
