Common Name or Meaning The Saraguro Lepanthes [A town in Loja Province of Ecuador]

Found in Loja province of Ecuador in primary cloud forests at elevations around 2800 meters as a miniature sized, cold growing epiphyte with an erect, terete stem enveloped by 19, papery, spiculate along the ribs, trumpet-shaped sheaths with an ovate, acute to acuminate, dilated ostia minutely spiculate along the margins and carrying a single, erect, coriaceous, ovate, emarginate, apiculate, obtuse and abruptly contracted below into a shortly petiolate base leaf that blooms at most any time of the year on a single, held on the underside of the leaf, peduncle terete .44" [9.2 mm] long, enveloped by membraneous, ovate, acute, truncate bracts that are ciliate along the midvein and margins, rachis terete .04" [1 mm] long, tightly congested, successively single, few flowered inflorescence carrying resupinate flowers.
"Similar to Lepanthes troglodytes but can be distinguished by more stem sheaths [to 19 versus 9 to 12], floral bracts that are ciliate along the mivein and margins versdus entire, and florally by the color of the petals, green with a dark purple margin along the upper lobe versus yellow orange suffused with purple and falcate lower lobes versus ovate with rounded lobes."
