Common Name The Wine-Red Lepanthopsis

Flower Size .1" [2 mm]

Found from Venezuela and Ecuador at elevations of 1500 to 2500 meters as a mini-miniature sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte with erect, slender ramicauls enveloped by 4 to 9 lepanthiform sheaths with ciliate ostia and carrying a single, apical, erct, coriaceous, elliptical, subacute, gradually cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the winter and spring on a congested, simultaneously many flowered, racemose, 2 ranked, 3.2" [8 cm] long including the .6 to 1.4" [1.5 to 3.5 cm] long peduncle, inflorescence arising from near the apex of the ramicaul.

"Recognized by the small to medium sized habit, congested racemes of numerous, purplish flowers in two opposing ranks about twice as long as the leaf, shortly acuminate, narrowly obtuse sepals, short, obtuse petals and an obtuse, broadly cordate lip." Luer 1991
