Found in Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Java, Lesser Sunda Islands, Sulawesi, Sumatra and New Guinea in hill and lower montane forests at swamp edges in partial shade at elevations of 450 to 1500 meters as a small to medium sized, hot to cool growing epiphyte with close set, cylindrical pseudobulbs enveloped completely by leaf bearing sheaths and carrying 3 to 5, ovate, acuminate, acute, plicate, thin leaves that blooms in the winter and summer on an 8 to 18" [20 to 45 cm] long, 4 to 5 winged, many flowered inflorescence with the successively opening flowers that get smaller ascending the inflorescence.
