Found in southern Guangdong, Guangxi, Guizhou, Hainan, Xizang and Yunnan China, Hong Kong, eastern Himalayas, Assam, Bhutan and Vietnam in evergreen broadleafed , semideciduous, mixed and coniferous forests at elevations of 400 to 2300 meters as a small to medium sized, warm to cold growing lithophyte with ovoid-cylindric, slightly compressed, 5 to 6 internoded pseudobulbs carrying 2, narrowly oblanceolate, acute, 5-veined, attenuate towards the base leaves that blooms in the fall through winter on an terminal, flattened, winged, 8 to 10.4" [20 to 26 cm] long, densely to 50 flowered inflorescence with 1 to 2, near the base sterile bracts and subulate floral bracts.

CAUTION L griffithii is said to be synomonous with this species but there are huge differences in the lip so I have excluded it at this time pending more information. So please refer to that species as well.
