Common Name

Flower Size 1/2" [1.25 cm]

Found in San Gabriel, Cundinamarca Colombia at elevations around 1200 to 1400 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool growing epiphyte with a fan of 8 to 12, linear, obtuse, complantate leaves that blooms in the spring on 1 to 2, axillary, 3" [7.5 cm] long, few flowered inflorescence carrying all the flowers towards the apex.

This species has a shorter, straight column held in line with the anther instead of at right angles as in M bicolor and the lip has only a single triangular portion which at the apex of the lip. That triangular portion is somewhat conduplicate and has slightly erose margins

According to The Native Colombian Orchid Series Vol 2 says that there are 5 described Colombian species, M bicolor, M junctum, M oberonia, M wullschlaegelianum and M xiphophorum and this species does not seem to fit well to any of those.
