Found in Costa Rica, Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador in upper montane cloud forests at eleavtions around 1800 to 2600 meters as a miniature to small sized, cool to cold growing terrestrial with pyriform pseudobulbs enveloped by imbricating leafless becoming leaf-bearing sheaths and carrying 2, subopposite, ovate, acute, thin, venation obvious, cuneate below to form an elongate, petiolate base leaves that blooms in the late spring and summer on an erect, terminal, to 10" [to 25 cm] long, subumbellate many flowered inflorescence with non-resupinate green flowers.
"Similar to M rosilloi but with smaller flowers less than .2" [5 mm] long, vs .24 to .28" [6 to 7 mm] long, in M rosilloi. and the lip cavity is limbate by a distinct, convex crest, highest and M-Shaped at its apical part vs simple distinct, convex veins, apically flattened and barely visibe in m rosilloi. Also similar to M julianii but M crispifolia differs in the acute dorsal sepal vs subobtuse to obtuse in m Julianii. The single veined vs 3 veined latreal sepals andf the smaller lip cavity .24 to .28" [6 to 7 mm] vs .44 to .48" [1 to 1.2 cm]." Szlatchetko & Kolanowska 2023
