Found in Zamora Chinchipe province of Ecuador in primary, tropical forests, under the canopy of trees on thin branches among moss and lichens, at elevations around 1100 meters as a small sized, cool growing epiphtye with stout erect, stems enveloped by 2 slender tubular spathaceous sheaths and carrying an erect, semi-coriaceous, obovate-falcate, subacute to acute, gradually narrowing below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the winter and spring on a stout, semi-horizontal peduncle markedly triquetrous with brown maculae, 2.2 to 3.4" [5.5 to 8.5 cm] long, divided with an internode covered by a papyraceous spathe, rachis single flowered inflorescence presenting an aborted floral stipule with bracts whitish turning scarcely greenish at apex, tubular, imbricate, inflated, as long as the pedicel floral bracts.
