Common Name The Sharp Angle Masdevallia [refers to the mentum of the sepaline tube]
Flower Size 2" [5 cm]
Found in Narino department of Colombia and northwestern Ecuador in cloud forests as a miniature to small sized, warm to cold growing terrestrial or lithophyte on steep embankments at elevations of 600 to 2600 meters with clump-forming, stout, erect, purplish ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 loose tubular sheaths carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, oblong-obovate, obtuse to rounded leaf that is cuneate into the stout channeled petiole that blooms in the fall through late winter on a slender, suberect to descending, 1 to 2 2/5" [2.5 to 6 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul with a loose, tubular, floral bract carrying a large, fleshy, foul-smelling, long-lasting, color-variable flower held way below the leaf.
Mounting this species can help in the best display of the flower on the numerous short inflorescence that arise below the leaves.
