Common Name Brenner's Masdevallia [American Orchid Enthusiast in Ecuador and Collector of species current]

Found in Pastaza province of Ecuador at elevations around 1000 meters as a mini-miniature sized, warm growing epiphyte with stout erect ramicauls enveloped by 2 to 3 thin, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, narrowly elliptical-obovate, subacute, gradually narrowing below into the subpetiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring on an erect, stout, triquetrous, congested, successively single, 5.8" [14.5 cm] long, several flowered, racemose inflorescence with thin, oblique, imbricating, shorter than the pedicel floral bracts carrying a very compressed flower.

"Identified by the greenish, dorsally compressed flowers borne single in a congested raceme atop a triquetrous peduncle. The dorsal sepal is antrorse witha tail .08" [2 mm] thick. The laterral sepals are deeply connate into a tailess synsepal that ends in broad, triangualr apices. Related to M virens M guttulata. M virens is distinguished by a non-compressed flwer with longer, narrowly triangular free potions." Luer 2000
