Common Name The Elegant Masdevallia

Found in Huanuco and San Martin departments of central Peru at elevations of 900 to 1700 meters as a miniature sized, warm to cool growing epiphyte or terrestrial on higher elevation roadbanks with slender, erect, ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 loose, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical, obtuse, cuneate below in to the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the winter and spring on a slender, arising from low on the ramicaul with a bract at the base, erect, triquetrous, 4" to 4.6" [10 to 11.5 cm] long, simultaneous 2 flowered inflorescence with tubular, imbricating, shorter than the pedicel floral bracts.
"Within the M bicolor complex but distinguished by 2 simultaneous flowers in a congested few flowered raceme, The triquetrous peduncle is taller and more slender than M bicolor. The thin transluscent sepals are yellow green, and the laterals are connate into a proportionally broader synsepal that are variously suffussed with rose but sometimes the sepals are yellow and purple as in M bicolor. The petals and lip are simiar in both species." Luer 2000
