Common Name Botta's Masdevallia [Salesien Missionary and CoDiscoverer of Species- Current]

Flower Size 2" [5 cm]

Found only in Ecuador in rainforest at elevations of 1500 to 2200 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with blackish, slender, erect ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, petiolate, elliptical, obtuse to rounded apically leaf that is cuneate into the slender, blackish petiole that blooms in the spring on a slender, suberect, 1 3/5" to 2 3/4" [4 to 7 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul, with a bract near the base and a tubular floral bract holding the flower at leaf height.
