Common Name The Thick Flowered Masdevallia

Flower Size 1 1/4" [3.1 cm]

Found in southern Colombia in the departments of Cauca on el Vulcan de Purace and Narino in deep paramo at elevations of 2900 to 3600 meters as a small sized, cold growing epiphyte with erect, stout ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3, loose, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, thickly coriaceous, elliptical, subacute to obtuse, purple suffused beneath, gradually narrowing below into the cuneate, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the winter and spring on a slender, suberect, to ascending, 1.2" to 1.6" [3 to 4 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul and has a bract at the base and a tubular floral bract.
