Common Name The Equally-Large Petal Masdevallia

Flower Size 2" [5 cm]

Found in Ecuador and Peru on trunks and low branches in cold, scrub cloud forest at elevations around 1500 to 3150 meters as a miniature to small sized, caespitose, cloud forest, cool to cold growing epiphytic species with a short, inconspicuous ramicaul concealed by several tubular sheaths with a single, narrowly lanceolate to oblanceolate, attenuate to the narrowed, channeled petiolate base leaf with basal sheaths and blooms in the summer and fall on an erect to suberect, slender, 4" [10 cm] long, just longer than the leaf inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul with a bract near the base, a close, tubular bract that carries a single flower held above the leaf.

This species is similar to M. triangularis yet differs in having an ovate labellum lamina with the apical lobule having an entire margin.
