Common Name Doris' Masdevallia [Ms Dukes American Orchid enthusiast current]

Found in Zamora-Chinchipe department of Ecuador without collection data as a miniature sized, caespitose epiphyte with blackish, slender, erect, ramicauls enveloped by 2 to 3, loose, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical, subacute, narrowly cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the late summer and early fall on an erect, arising from low on the ramicaul, slender, triquetrous, subdense, 5.6" [14 cm] long, a successively few flowered inflorescence with as as long as the pedicel floral bract.

"Distinguished by the synsepal that decurves abruptly at the orificeof the cylindrical, sepaline tube. The acute apices are attenuated into relatively short tails. The long attenuate dorsal sepal decurves. The petals are oblong and the oblong lip is white below the middle and black above the middle with an obtuse, minutely verrucose apex." Luer 1999
