Common Name The Kingly Masdevallia

Found in Ecuador in wet montane forests ate elevations of 600 to 950 meters as a miniature, warm growing epiphyte with erect, blackish ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, elliptical-obovate, obtuse leaf that is narrowly cuneate into the petiole and blooms in the summer on an erect, stout, 1 1/4" to 1 1/2" [3 to 3.5 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising from the base of the ramicaul with a bract above the base and a tubular floral bract.
