Common Name The Yellow Masdevallia
Flower Size 7" [to 17 cm]
Found in Antioquia and Caldas departments of Colombia, Ecuador and Peru in damp woods on both sides of the Andes in cloud forests at elevations of 1500 to 2800 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool to cold growing epiphyte with blackish, erect, slender ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3 loose, tubular sheaths carrying a single, apical, oblong-ovate, suberect, shortly petiolate, tridenticulate apically leaf that is cuneate below into the slender petiole and blooms in the winter on an erect, slender, terete, 3" [8 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul with a bract below the middle and a tubular floral bract that holds the flower above the leaves.
Constant moisture, moderate shade and cold to cool temperatures are appreciated by this marvelous species.
