Common Name Echo's Masdevallia [Greek Nymph]

Found in Junin, Cajamarca and Huanuco departmnt of Peru at elevations of 2000 to 2700 meters as a small sized, caespitose, cold growing, epiphytic species found with a stout, erect ramicaul enveloped by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, narrowly elliptical-oblong, subacute to obtuse leaf that narrows gradually into an ill defined, channeled petiole that blooms at most any time of the year with a few successive flowers on a congested, 6 to 12" [15 to 30 cm] long, triquetrous, slender inflorescence with papery, imbricating, shorter than the pedicel floral bracts that holds the flowers just above the leaves.

"Similar to M infracta but vegetatively large for the subsection and the long peduncle equal or surpasses the leaves in length. The flowers are borne successively in a congested, long pedicellate raceme. The sepals are deeply connate into a suborbicular or bell-shaped cup with the long tail of the dorsal sepal erect and the two tails of the lateral sepals closely parallel if not in apposition. The petals are oblong and apiculate. The lip is oblong and arcuate above the marginal folds with the epichile denticulate." Luer 2000
