Common Name or Meaning Ehmig's Masdevallia [Ecuadorian, Magister. Found in Zamora Chinchipe province of Ecuador in primary forest under the canopy of trees, on thin branches, at elevations around 1600 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool growing epiphtye with stout, erect stems enveloped by 2 slender, tubular, spathaceous sheaths and carrying an erect, leathery, ovate, obtuse to semi-acute, retuse mucronate apically, petiolate base leaf that blooms in the summer, fall and winter on a stout, erect, cylindrical peduncle, 1.4 to 1.6" [3.5 to 4 cm] long, provided with an internode covered by a papyraceous spathe rachis short, single-flowered inflorescence appears on the ramicaul, with greenish, barely whitish, tubular, imbricate, inflated floral bracts.
" The new species belongs to SUBGENUS Masdevallia SECTION Masdevallia SUBSECTION Caudatae Veitch 1889 , whichconsists of 28 species. Similar to Masdevallia decumana , but can be distinguished by light brown flowers (vs. brown flowers with much darker macules), hyaline petals cleft apex (vs. dull petals, acuminate apex), ovate lip, obtuse apex, truncate base with dark brown hair-like macules (vs. Semi-dromboid lip, rounded apex, obtuse base with prom-inent dark brown maculae) dorsal sepal narrow base with relatively short cauda (vs. broad base and noticeably longer cauda)" H.Medina, J.Portilla & I.Portilla 2025
