Common Name Ejiri's Masdevallia [Japanese Orchid Enthusiast current]

Flower Size .8" [2 cm]

Found in Ecuador at elevations around 1500 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cool growing, caespitose epiphyte with slender, erect, blackish ramicauls enveloped basally by 2 to 3, loose, black, tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, coriaceous, broadly elliptical, obtuse to rounded, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring on a slender, erect, 1.2" [3 cm] single flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul with a bract at the base and a tubular floral bract.

Differs from the very similar M andreettaeana by having a fringed wing-like lip.
