Found in Puno department of Peru in dense mossy cloud forests on mossy trunks and branches at elevations of 2600 to 2800 meters as a small sized, cold growing epiphyte with erect, stout, blackish in the wild ramicauls enveloped basally by 3 to 4 tubular sheaths and carrying a single, erect, coriaceous, basally conduplicate and cuneate, elliptic to ovate, obtuse, blackish flushed petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring on an erect, slender, peduncle 5.2" [13 cm] long, provided with a tubular bract above the middle, single flowered inflorescence with a tubular, shorter than the pedicel floral bract and carrying campanulate, showy flowers
