Common Name The Large-Tongued Masdevallia
Flower Size .8" [2 cm]
Found in Norte de Santander department of Colombia and western Venezuela in subparamo to cloud forests at elevations of 2500 to 3200 meters as a mini-miniature sized, cold growing epiphyte or terrestrial with erect, stout ramicauls enveloped by 2 to 3 tubular sheaths and carrying a single, apical, erect, rigid, thickly coriaceous, elliptical-obovate, subacute to obtuse, cuneate below into the petiolate base leaf that blooms in the spring on a slender, ascending to suberect, .8 to 1.4" [2 to 3.5 cm] long, single flowered inflorescence arising from low on the ramicaul with a bract near the base and has a tubular floral bract.
